RECYCLING IN DULVERTON

There are eighteen recycling centres in Somerset. It is, without doubt, an expensive service to maintain. But never underestimate the wrath of a community like Dulverton when such a service is threatened. Right now Somerset's waste management schemes are under the spotlight as County Councillors seek financial savings.  This is the list of all the County's recycling facilities:

The Dulverton recycling centre is far from big, but its advocates are intelligent and vocal. Customers appear to be prepared to travel many miles just to make use of it. There is evidence that Devonians drive to Dulverton in order to dipose of their unwanted household goods. Perhaps they could help save the centre through a simple ticketing arrangement? Strictly speaking this is a matter for the County Council. Those who wish to make representations should contact Cllr Frances Nicholson: FMNicholson@somerset.gov.uk

I know she is doing everything she can to reflect the very powerful views local people have already expressed. I was in Dulverton the other day. I visited the centre, talked to the team and met a number of local people. There may be good economic grounds to safeguard this facility If so I will highlight them and make sure those with the power to decide get all the facts.
